Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Nov 11
(bottled entirely in magnums): Entrancing aromas of cherry, plum, tobacco and dried flowers. Utterly seamless in spite of its very firm spine of acids and tannins, but extremely backward and youthfully imploded. A very elegant style of Barolo in need of much patience. These magnums may last forever. These vines below Aldo Conterno's Cicala were the first purchased by Clerico in Barolo (1979) but through the years this nebbiolo had gone into the Arte.

Barolo

Barolo, the "King of Wines," is a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known for deep complexity, Barolo offers rich flavours of dark cherries, roses, truffles, and spices, with high acidity and firm tannins. It ages exceptionally well, evolving in depth and nuance. Barolo's diverse terroirs create a range of styles, from powerful to delicate. Top producers include Gaja, Bruno Giacosa, Giuseppe Rinaldi, and Marchesi di Barolo, all of whom exemplify Barolo's tradition and quality.
